Niagara Falls State Park is embarking on a major upgrade as construction begins on the highly anticipated $9 million project that will add new stairs and an overlook structure, creating a seamless connection between the existing ‘Crow’s Nest’ and Prospect Point, and offering visitors a new, up-close view of the iconic Falls.

“Niagara Falls State Park is an ideal setting to disconnect from digital distractions and immerse oneself in nature,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement. “This enhancement will provide New Yorkers with another opportunity to explore our state’s breathtaking natural resources.”

Currently, the ‘Crow’s Nest’ comprises a set of stairs adjacent to the American Falls, allowing visitors to climb midway up the Falls for stunning views. The new project will alleviate congestion in the lower gorge by providing an additional egress route. During peak seasons, the stairs will serve as a one-way exit from the lower gorge, while during the off-season, they will offer two-way access to the new overlook.

Construction is scheduled to commence in early September and is expected to be completed by the 2026 season.

Funding for the project comes from a combination of sources, including State Parks capital funding, The Maid of the Mist Corporation, The Niagara River Greenway, and the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.

“This initiative exemplifies our commitment to enhancing visitor experiences at our State Parks,” said New York State Parks Commissioner Pro Tempore Randy Simons. “The new stairs will provide expanded access to the gorge and offer a unique vantage point of Niagara Falls, reducing reliance on the observation tower elevators. We are grateful to our partners for their support.”

Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino welcomed the development.

“This extension will offer unparalleled access to the beauty of Niagara Falls. We appreciate this investment and eagerly anticipate its completion,” he said.

The extension of the ‘Crow’s Nest’ is set to become a major enhancement for Niagara Falls State Park, promising to deliver an even more spectacular experience for all who visit, the statement said.
