New York officials have awarded a $313.5 million contract to CNY Alliance for a key phase of the I-81 Viaduct Project in Syracuse.

This contract encompasses several major improvements, including the construction of a new interchange at westbound I-690 and Crouse Avenue, and the widening of Crouse Avenue with an additional northbound lane.

It also covers a new interchange at eastbound I-690 and Irving Avenue, as well as the reconstruction of Irving Avenue, which will include an additional southbound lane and an extension beyond its current terminus.

The project includes significant upgrades to stormwater and wastewater infrastructure, the replacement of two bridges, and enhancements to local streets and sidewalks. This agreement represents the fourth of eight contracts for the $2.3 billion project.

CNY Alliance is a joint venture comprising A. Servidone Inc., B. Anthony Construction Corp., Rifenburg Construction Corp., and Crane-Hogan Structural Systems Inc.

The I-81 Viaduct Project involves the demolition of the existing viaduct that carries Interstate 81 into downtown Syracuse. The highway will be rerouted onto Interstate 481, which loops around the city, and a new “community grid” of at-grade local streets will replace the viaduct.

State Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez highlighted the project’s community-driven approach, noting its potential to enhance quality of life, improve public safety, and support local economic development.

Work on the initial contracts is already underway. Earlier this year, Salt City Constructors LLC was awarded the $218.9 million third contract for work on a segment of the current I-81 near North Clinton and Bear streets in downtown Syracuse.
