Together with Futureworks NYC, NYDesigns will be hosting a beginners workshop on using a CNC Router. Models to be used during the training are the Techno HD4896 CNC router and Roland Modela MDX-50 4 axis.

The event will be held on Dec. 13 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the NYDesigns FabLab at 29-10 Thomson Ave., 9th Floor, Long Island.

The 5,000 sq.ft. facility serves as the organization’s on-site fabrication lab that allows the creation of prototype design concepts in a safe and secure space. It is fully-equipped with an array of analog and digital tools, including traditional hand and power tools, a laser cutter, 3D printers, CNC Router, vacuum former and FMD rapid prototyper.

Participants must have a knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, or another program for creating vector and raster files. They should also bring a sample design saved on a USB drive.

While the workshop is free of charge, registration is required, with the deadline on Dec. 23. Interested individuals can reserve their spot by filling in an online form.

This training is provided under the Futureworks Shops, an initiative dedicated to providing New Yorkers with prototyping and production credits, access to coworking opportunities, studio time, mentorship and events across the city. Each of the shops feature advanced machinery and industry experts.

Aside from NYDesigns, other shops include A/D/O in Greenpoint, Bronx Innovation Factory in Fordham Heights, Pratt Institute’s Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator in Bed-Stuy, Collab in Hudson Square, Craftsman Ave in Gowanus, NEW INC in Nolita, Voodoo Manufacturing in Bushwick, and Zahn Innovation Center in Hamilton Heights.
