State police cracked down on drivers they say disobeyed the rules in a work zone on Interstate 81 in Binghamton.
Construction crews were completing bridgework along I-81 on Aug. 19 when “a trooper blended in with the workers in the work zone and watched for risky and unsafe behavior,” state police said in a news release.
Troopers handed out more than two dozen tickets during the “Operation Hard Hat” detail. Of the 27 tickets, 19 were for speeding; two for occupants not wearing seat belts; and six other miscellaneous tickets, syracuse.com reported
“Motorists are urged to drive responsibly in work zones,” state police said in the release.“Please follow the posted signage. Move over a lane, when it’s safely possible or whenever encountering vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights. Everyone working on the side of the road deserves to go back home to their family!”
