Albany International Airport has completed the first phase of its Concourse A Rehabilitation Project, marked by the opening of two newly constructed gates designed to enhance the passenger experience and improve airport efficiency.
AOW Construction is managing the project, and the company is being recognized for its successful completion of this initial phase.
Phase one focused on transforming gates A1 and A2, which previously required passengers to board at ground level and walk outdoors. The revamped gates are now located on the upper concourse, alongside gates A3 through A6, streamlining boarding procedures and providing greater comfort.
“This is more than a cosmetic update; it’s a fundamental improvement to the way we serve travelers,” said Peter Stuto, CEO of the Albany County Airport Authority. “Today marks an important milestone in our long-term effort to deliver a more modern, efficient, and welcoming airport experience for everyone who passes through ALB.”
Upgrades in this phase include:
- Brand-new seating equipped with integrated power outlets
- Improved lighting and infrastructure
- New flooring and ceilings
- A designated space for future concessions
“Albany International is the front door to our region, and this project shows we’re serious about making a great first impression,” said Sam Fresina, Chair of the Albany County Airport Authority Board. “We’re not just updating a concourse—we’re investing in infrastructure that supports jobs, attracts new routes, and keeps this airport competitive for years to come.”
The project received $10 million from the Airport Terminal Program grant in February 2024 and $10.6 million through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The total cost of the concourse modernization is estimated at $13.36 million.
The newly opened gates will serve Allegiant Air and United Airlines. Future phases of the rehabilitation project will include renovations to gates A3 through A6, upgraded restrooms, mechanical systems, and additional passenger amenities.
