New York State will invest more than $600 million in more than 180 road paving projects during the 2026 construction season, the state announced Thursday. The projects, which will cover nearly 2,150 lane miles, are part of the New York State Department of Transportation’s (NYSDOT) ongoing Capital Plan and are in addition to paving initiatives already scheduled.

“New Yorkers will be seeing crews out there like never before next year, rejuvenating highways, enhancing the safety of the traveling public, and laying a solid foundation for economic development across the Empire State,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement.

The work is funded in part by an $800 million allocation from the most recent state budget, which augments the final two years of NYSDOT’s five-year, $34.3 billion Capital Plan. When combined with the department’s core programs, the total number of pavement renewal projects planned for 2026 will exceed 250, representing nearly $1.2 billion in resurfacing more than 4,000 lane miles across the state.

NYSDOT officials said the projects will target roadways in need of repair and maintenance, with crews scheduled to begin work next year.

The department’s five-year Capital Plan, covering 2022-2027, is the largest in its history, according to NYSDOT. The 2026 paving projects are part of the plan’s focus on state road and bridge infrastructure improvements.
