22 New York airports awarded $66M for upgrades

Twenty-two airports across New York state will receive a combined $66.7 million in federal funding for upgrades to facilities and equipment, the Federal Aviation Administration announced Tuesday.

The funding comes through the agency’s Airport Improvement Program and Airport Infrastructure Grant Program. The projects will focus on safety measures and modernization intended to improve passenger services.

Major awards include $15.1 million for Westchester County Airport, $13.2 million for Syracuse Hancock International Airport, and $7.1 million for Watertown International Airport.

In addition to the newly announced grants, the FAA confirmed that previously allocated funds are being released, including $6 million for Syracuse Hancock International Airport and $1.5 million for Ithaca Tompkins International Airport.

Recipients includes:

  • Westchester County Airport — $15,147,869

  • Syracuse Hancock International Airport — $13,226,470

  • Watertown International Airport — $7,128,000

  • Albany International Airport — $3,897,700

  • Plattsburgh International Airport — $3,686,875

  • Buffalo Niagara International Airport — $3,440,000

  • Long Island MacArthur Airport — $3,239,491

  • Greater Binghamton Airport — $3,072,632

  • Elmira/Corning Regional Airport — $2,649,975

  • Rochester International Airport — $2,452,929

  • Massena International Airport — $1,562,697

  • Ogdensburg International Airport — $1,422,808

  • Watertown International Airport (additional) — $1,300,000

  • Ithaca Tompkins International Airport — $1,500,000

  • Other regional airports statewide — smaller awards ranging from $200,000 to $900,000
