$484 million awarded for bridge and culvert repairs across New York State

More than $484 million has been announced for projects in 137 communities across New York State.

Funding, part of the state’s BRIDGE NY initiative, will go to 216 projects aimed at rehabilitating and replacing bridges and culverts, bolstering the structures against severe weather and the impacts of climate change.

The goal is to reduce flooding risks and improve the resilience of vital transportation infrastructure. It also aims to enhance regional economic competitiveness and prioritize projects that benefit environmental justice communities.

Highlights of the BRIDGE NY awards include:

  • Capital Region: $43.1 million, with $4.75 million allocated to Albany County for the superstructure replacement of the South Albany Road Bridge over Onesquethaw Creek.
  • Central New York Region: $37.5 million, including $2.6 million for the replacement of the North Division Street bridge over Owasco Outlet in Cayuga County.
  • Finger Lakes Region: $46.4 million, with $5 million for the replacement of the Turk Hill Road bridge over Thomas Creek in Monroe County.
  • Mid-Hudson Region: $63.5 million, with $5 million each to the Village/Town of Mount Kisco, the Orange County Department of Public Works, and the Ulster County Department of Public Works for various bridge replacements.
  • Mohawk Valley Region: $40.2 million, including $4.4 million for the replacement of the Tannery Street bridge over Schenevus Creek in the Town of Maryland.
  • North Country Region: $43.4 million, featuring $5.8 million for the replacement of the Route 49 bridge over the East Branch of St. Regis River in St. Lawrence County.
  • Southern Tier Region: $58 million, with $5.2 million for the replacement of the Newcomb Road bridge over Canisteo Creek in Steuben County.
  • Western New York Region: $77.4 million, including $4.7 million for the replacement of the Warren Spahn Way bridge over Cazenovia Creek in Buffalo.
  • Long Island Region: $910,000 for the replacement of the Barton Avenue culvert carrying Swan River Stream in the Town of Brookhaven.
  • New York City Region: $73.8 million, featuring $18.5 million for the replacement of Belt Parkway bridges over Ocean Avenue and Bedford Avenue.
