New York State will provide up to $80 million in capital funding for nonprofit arts and cultural organizations, including an expansion of the Hudson Valley Shakespeare project, which will feature a LEED-certified theater and ecological land restoration.
Funding is in addition to $32 million awarded by NYSCA earlier this year, focusing on large-scale capital projects that enhance community development and placemaking.
The Capital Projects Fund aims to support nonprofit organizations in making essential improvements that sustain and expand cultural programming for diverse audiences, while also promoting accessibility and environmental sustainability.
Three grants are available:
- Small and Midsized Capital Improvement Grants: Grants of up to $2 million are available for projects prioritizing accessibility, artistry, and cultural development. Organizations with operating budgets under $2 million can apply for no-match grants ranging from $10,000 to $99,000.
- Large Capital Improvement Grants: This funding supports impactful, large-scale projects, offering grants from $2 million to $10 million for total project costs of $4 million or more. Applicants must commit to social equity initiatives and ensure their projects serve all New Yorkers.
- Capital Design Grants: Available for organizations with budgets of $10 million or less, these grants range from $50,000 to $500,000 to support the development of design documents for eligible capital improvements.
The application deadline is Jan. 14, 2025. NYSCA will host webinars and virtual office sessions to assist applicants with the process. Grant awards are expected to be announced in spring 2025.
“These critical projects create pathways forward for our cultural facilities and galvanize their communities with economic and social benefits that far surpass their investment,” said NYSCA Executive Director Erika Mallin.
