Construction of a several-thousand-square-foot single-story field operations building at the New York State Academy of Fire Science in Montour Falls is expected to begin around mid-fall, The Leader reported, citing state officials.
Kristin Devoe, director of public information for the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, told the newspaper that site and foundation work for the new building could begin around the end of October this year.
The $5-million, 20,000-sq.-ft. building will be constructed on the training grounds in proximity to the area used for firefighter training and skills teaching at the academy.
Once complete, the building will include state of the art facilities and provide the fire academy with greater training, teaching, equipment and storage capabilities, Devoe said.
