Cornell Tech has opened its Roosevelt Island campus as plans move forward for an executive education center and hotel to be completed by 2019.
The building will include four 50- to 75-seat classrooms and a 195-key hotel, New York YIMBY reports. The hotel will feature a restaurant and a café, and the education center will have conference rooms and a buffet lounge. The two components will be connected by a main hall. The plans must be approved by the Public Design Commission, among other city agencies.
“Slated for completion in 2019, the Verizon Executive Education Center will ensure that Cornell Tech is a magnet in New York City for innovation by providing a venue for academic conferences, executive programs and academic workshops,” Cornell Tech says on its website.
“Designed by international architecture firm Snøhetta, the 360,000-sq. ft. center will be a place for the entire tech community to gather for conferences and meetups, expanding the impact the campus has on technology beyond academia.”
YIMBY reports that Hudson Companies, Related Companies, and Forest City Ratner Companies are all taking development roles in the overall project, while Morphosis Architecture, Weiss/Manfredi Architecture, and Snøhetta are taking parts in the design process. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill is the master planner.
