New York State approves $428 million for water infrastructure upgrades

The New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC) Board of Directors has approved more than $428 million in financial assistance for essential water and sewer infrastructure projects statewide, including low-interest loans and previously announced grants.

Funding will be allocated through the Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds (SRF), which combine federal and state dollars to offer municipalities affordable financing for water infrastructure projects.

Key projects include:

Central New York

  • Village of Homer: $4 million for the installation of a new drinking water storage tank and upgrades to water mains and pump stations.
  • Village of Pulaski: $12.3 million for replacing approximately 20,000 feet of aging water mains, supported by the Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act of 2022.

Finger Lakes

  • Livingston County Water and Sewer Authority: $8.75 million for pump station upgrades around Conesus Lake.
  • Village of Albion: $10.2 million for improvements to the existing water treatment plant.

Long Island

  • Village of Sands Point: $5 million for treatment systems to remove harmful contaminants like PFOA and PFOS from drinking water, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Mid-Hudson

  • Village of Goshen: $5.3 million for water treatment upgrades and pump station construction.
  • Town of New Windsor: $14.8 million for expanding a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Town of Poughkeepsie: $5.3 million for sewer improvements.

Rockland County

  • $26.6 million in financing for upgrades to sewage and wastewater infrastructure at various pump stations and treatment plants.

Mohawk Valley

  • Village of Poland: $840,000 for drinking water infrastructure upgrades, including new wells and chlorination systems.

North Country

  • Development Authority of the North Country: $5 million for replacing 13,000 feet of water transmission mains.

Western New York

  • Chautauqua County: $24.2 million for sewer improvements around Chautauqua Lake.
  • Village of Pomfret: $5 million for a new water district serving approximately 100 properties.

Additionally, the Board approved more than $294 million in long-term financing for previously completed water infrastructure projects, which will save municipalities an estimated $260 million in interest payments over the life of the loans.
