The New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) is piloting a remote visual inspection program.

“For now, the pilot program is limited to just sign off construction inspections in Staten Island, and Stop Work Order reinspections for construction work without a permit in Brooklyn,” says DOB press secretary Andrew Rudansky. “If the pilot program is a success, this could lead to us expanding the remote video program to other types of inspections across the city.”

Eligible applicants and owners can request to take part in the pilot program when scheduling an inspection and will also be given the option to participate by DOB staff when an eligible inspection is requested.

To take part in the program, participants need to complete a Remote Video Inspection (RVI) Request and Attestation Form. “Once a remote inspection is scheduled, unit staff will provide more details and instructions for using Microsoft Teams prior to the time of inspection,” the DOB says in its March 12 Building News Update.
