Tutor Perini Corporation has announced that its joint venture with O&G Industries (O&G) is set to execute contract documents for the Manhattan Jail project. The contract, valued at about $3.76 billion, comes after a recent public hearing conducted by the City of New York concerning the proposed agreement between the New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC) and the Tutor Perini-O&G JV.
The contract is slated to last about seven years and will involve the design and construction of a modern, state-of-the-art jail facility aimed at addressing the city’s needs in terms of detention space and related services.
Manhattan’s new facility will have 1,040 beds and feature 125 accessory parking spaces located below grade to accommodate staff and service providers.
The design also includes dedicated areas for on-site services and programming, indoor and outdoor recreation spaces, food services, staff offices, amenities, and a secured entry system. Additionally, the ground floor will offer 20,000 sq. ft. of community and commercial space, further integrating the facility into its surrounding environment.
Tutor Perini is the managing partner in the joint venture, with O&G holding a 25% stake. The joint venture’s design partner is the architectural firm HOK, known for its expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects.
This project is a significant part of a broader initiative to improve its detention facilities, ensuring safer, more efficient environments for both detainees and staff, while enhancing the community with commercial and civic amenities.
