Artists, architects, landscape architects and designers are being invited to submit their ideas to commemorate the victims of Hurricane Maria with designs for a memorial.

The memorial will be constructed at The Esplanade and the Chambers Street Overlook in Battery Park City in New York City. It is intended to stand as an international symbol of the resilience of the Puerto Rican community and will honor the victims of the September 20, 2017 hurricane.

The project is being led by the Hurricane Maria Memorial Commission which was established by Governor Andrew Cuomo under Executive Order No. 189. The online competition submission period runs until September 9, 2019.
