A new fly-through video has been released, providing the first look at the redesigned Greater Binghamton Airport. The video showcases major enhancements planned for the airport, an initiative announced by the Governor in November.
“Our Upstate airports are vital links to their communities, and we’re committed to ensuring they offer a welcoming and enjoyable experience for both residents and visitors,” Hochul said. “This video highlights the significant transformation underway at Greater Binghamton Airport, allowing travelers to preview the improvements that will make it the perfect gateway to New York’s Southern Tier.”
The site is one of nine upstate airports receiving a portion of the $230 million from the Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization Competition, announced by Governor Hochul in 2022. This funding aims to modernize and revitalize upstate commercial airports, preparing them for the demands of the 21st century.
Built in 1945, the Greater Binghamton Airport, which serves over 38,000 passengers annually and is serviced by carriers like Delta Airlines, has not seen a major update in over two decades. The current upgrades include:
- revamping the Airport Road approach
- building a new canopy and entry portals
- reconfiguring the ticketing lobby and baggage areas
- renovating the departures lobby and lounge
- updating the baggage claim area and relocating rental car counters
- installing new parking revenue control systems
- adding geothermal wells
The total cost of the airport’s revitalization is estimated at $53.9 million, with $14.8 million in federal funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). The project is expected to create over 600 jobs and be completed by spring 2025.
“The Greater Binghamton Airport is crucial for regional development. The improvements will boost infrastructure, making travel more efficient and supporting local economic growth,” said State Senator Lea Webb. “I’m grateful to Governor Hochul for her $32 million investment, which will position our airport to meet future needs.”
