Dodge Data and Analytics has reported on November construction starts in the metropolitan statistical area of New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island, consisting of Bergen, Bronx, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Kings, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Nassau, New York, Ocean, Passaic, Pike, Putnam, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Somerset, Suffolk, Sussex, Union and Westchester in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
The data indicates a slight increase in non-residential construction (3 percent) from November, 2019, but a sharp 46 percent decline for the same month last year, resulting in a net overall loss of 21 percent.
The COVID-19 pandemic overall has caused a 23 percent decline in building activity cumulatively for 2020 compared to 2019
Nonresidential buildings include office, retail, hotels, warehouses, manufacturing, educational, healthcare, religious, government, recreational, and other buildings. Residential buildings include single family and multifamily housing.
