The North Hempstead Town Board has approved a 77-unit affordable housing complex for seniors in New Cassel.
The six two-story townhouses will be built at the former site of a blighted school at the corner of Grand Street and Broadway, Newsday reports.
The complex will consist of 60 one-bedroom units, 16 two-bedroom units and a one-bedroom unit for managers.
According to officials, the development will help address the pressing need for affordable senior housing in the town.
“The Grand Street development will provide some of this much-needed senior housing in a convenient location within walking distance of local shopping and our Yes We Can Community Center,” Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth was quoted as saying.
