The Village of Pulaski will receive $10 million as the Central New York winner of the eighth round of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). Additionally, the Villages of Chittenango and Marathon will each receive $4.5 million as the Central New York winners of the third round of the NY Forward program.

Overall, these Central New York communities will receive a combined $19 million.

“At the heart of thriving communities is a vibrant downtown that brings families, friends and visitors together, and supports local businesses,” Governor Kathy Hochul said. “These are the kinds of investments we are making in Central New York and across the state — not just revitalizing downtowns, but also creating affordable housing opportunities and fostering the growth of local economies.”

The DRI and NY Forward programs aim to transform underutilized or struggling downtowns into thriving, vibrant neighborhoods that attract businesses, residents, and visitors. To be eligible for funding, localities must be certified under Governor Hochul’s Pro-Housing Communities Program, which supports municipalities committed to increasing housing availability. The initiative has already certified 287 communities statewide, with $650 million allocated annually for housing-related projects. This year, Governor Hochul also proposed an additional $100 million to support infrastructure projects and $10.5 million in technical assistance.

Pulaski plans to enhance infrastructure, create new job opportunities, and improve quality of life for residents.

“This funding will encourage further progress, helping Pulaski forge a brighter future for all its inhabitants,” said Pulaski officials. “We are excited about the opportunity to make Pulaski a vibrant, inclusive community for generations to come.”

Chittenango will use the state funding to revitalize its downtown, celebrate its heritage, and embrace sustainable growth.

“Chittenango’s potential for economic rebirth is clear,” said Chittenango Village officials. “We envision a vibrant community that honors our unique history while embracing sustainability and innovation.”

The Village of Marathon plans to use the $4.5 million  to improve its downtown, restore historic properties, and develop the riverfront area. The funding will also support the growth of the village’s retail sector.

“Marathon’s location and character make it a perfect spot for investment,” said Marathon officials. “We are committed to creating a welcoming downtown that serves the needs of our residents and visitors alike.”
