The City of Rochester is looking for a contractor to build the Link Rapid Transit system. The bidding process will remain open for about four more weeks, and the winning bid expected to be announced mid-February.
Link is a proposed 2.8-mile route along 2nd Street that will connect downtown Rochester, Mayo Civic Center, Mayo Clinic campuses, and the Downtown Waterfront Southeast area.
The project involves roadwork, construction, and demolition along with the creation of seven new bus stations along a 2.8-mile route.
Following the selection of a contractor, the city plans to begin site preparations in March, with construction expected to start by early April.
The first phase of construction is planned for a stretch of 2nd Street Southwest, near the Mayo Clinic’s St. Marys campus and will include sidewalk upgrades and demolition of an unoccupied property to make room for an underground pedestrian tunnel.
The Link Rapid Transit system is expected to be completed by fall 2026.
